As part of the accreditation process for OHSAS 18001 is was necessary to identify and risk assess all the company operations into a form of generic risk assessment. This was undertaken by Marine Vocational Services Limited. MVSL visited all company worksites and sailed on board company vessels while engaged in operations offshore over a period of six months. During this period MVSL worked closely with management and crews to identify all main company operations both offshore and shore based and each individual task was risk assessed.
This risk assessment Library comprising some 300 risk assessments is now stored electronically and can be accessed from any company computer even when that terminal is offshore. Operations can now be risk assessed and where necessary that risk assessment adjusted to reflect changing conditions and circumstances. The new risk assessment is then added to the library providing an ever increasing history of safe operations and activities for those that follow.
Mr Patrick Bennett Neptune Operations Manager said…:
“The development of this package of generic risk assessment is an important step for the company as we focus on safety in all that we do. The risk assessments provided by MVSL will certainly enable us to maintain our outstanding safety record as well as assist us towards accreditation for OHSAS 18001”
As part of the overall risk assessment implementation package the company has had specific personnel trained in the development and use of both these risk assessments and specific risk assessments. These personnel are now available at all company worksites and offshore locations.
